Lotte Duty Free

project brief & challenges—

The challenge for this project was to create an immersive environment for Lotte Duty Free’s new mall within Lotte World Tower in Seoul. Three areas of the mall were designated to have key display features; 1. Surround (10) existing marble columns with high resolution displays. 2. A chandelier made of (9) LED cylinders suspended over an active escalator. 3. (10) super thin monolith displays at an atrium area of the mall. These displays would spread across two floors and serve to engage visitors from various viewpoints.

For the LED columns a custom curved product was re-engineered to pull off the aggressive diameter wrap of each column. Three meter tall 6mm LED screens were integrated working around various fire safety obstructions. For the LED chandelier we developed a special 6mm pixel-pitch PCB board enabling us to meet the requested diameter spec of 30cm. A custom rigging structure with automated motors allowed for easy installation and serviceability. Specialty aluminum caps were designed to make clean looking fixtures that also housed data, power and rigging components. Ten monolith LED screens were created with a 3mm video display and integrated into a super thin structure cladded in polished aluminum sheet.
