Green Room’s design intent called for a life-sized interactive exhibit of the word “co-innovation”. Each three-dimensional letter of the word showcased a different innovative technology application. Four of the letters required high-resolution custom LED displays to follow the shape and work with the interactive elements.
Grant Nelson with AVI-SPL - charged with the integration of other AV aspects at the exhibit - recommended 5TEN to provide the solution for this last-minute, custom, and out-of-the-box concept.

Due to the tight timelines, we were limited to in-stock electronics of the right small size modules to make the desired shapes work. By tapping into our extensive supply chain of LED manufacturers, we found a 1.2mm resolution LED module that would work within the parameters of the design.
Our design engineering team worked in rapid time to design a robust and high tolerance adaptation frame that could meet the requirements of shape, thermal cooling, on-site assembly, and integration with the fabricated shells of the letters. The result was a laser-cut lightweight lattice frame with z-axis adjustment, and 3D printed location blocks for module alignment. All produced in collaboration with our US fabrication partners in record time.
Solution—
The UL complaint electrical system was integrated into the frames at our space at the Brooklyn Navy Yard by our expert team of technicians. The LED modules were pre-tested on the frames and then shipped separately for final installation on-site.
Our technical team collaborated with the interactive and content team to ensure they had all details to make the best possible pixel-accurate content, and provide playback and interactive hardware that could communicate with the LED control processing system.
The client’s can-do attitude and our engineers’ team's pro-active and solution-driven approach made this installation an overall smooth operation.
